What causes my pet to have dermatological issues?

Your pet’s skin is always exposed to irritants that can cause reactions. Your pet’s condition may be caused by parasites, certain plants, allergies, cleaning supplies (chemicals) and infections. Your pet may suffer from alopecia, dermatitis, dandruff, acne, impetigo and parasitic infections when exposed to those irritants.

What are signs that my pet has a skin issue?

The good thing about skin problems is they are easily noticed with the regular examination. Once you notice any irregularities please reach out to our team. Here are some signs you can be on the lookout for:

  • Dry and itchy skin
  • Gnawing at their skin
  • Skin sores
  • Excessive hair loss/shedding
  • Bald patches
  • Rashes
  • Abnormal body odour

How are dermatological problems treated in pets?

By performing physical examinations and running the right tests our licensed and experienced doctors will determine the best course of treatment. Along with blood tests, we may perform a culture swab or skin scraping for further testing. We may prescribe topical medications, shampoos, injections or special foods to help manage your pet’s skin issues. Even though treatment options are available online, it is best to bring your pet in for a diagnosis. Remember, DIY treatments can mask the symptoms for a short time, only for them to return later.
