Painless and non-invasive diagnostic tools that assist veterinarians in identifying issues.
Ultrasounds and X-rays are diagnostic tools we use to get immediate results and determine a treatment. These tools allow us to analyze your pet’s internal structures without opening them up for surgery. The procedures are completely safe for your furry friends and can help get them the care they need.
Ultrasounds and X-rays are procedures that do not require any preparation. To perform an ultrasound one of our skilled technicians will usually shave the fur from the area of interest. The technology works just as it’s performed on humans; the gel is applied to the area and a wand is waved over the skin. The wand releases sound waves that echo and produce images on a computer screen.
X-rays on the other hand use small amounts of radiation. As the light passes through your pet a snapshot is taken of the hard structures inside their body. The results from both tools are interpreted by our trained veterinarians. Understanding the scans is important to properly diagnose your pet.

No. The procedures are painless so we don’t need to use anesthesia. To get clear images the patient is required to remain still and our team aims to keep them calm during the procedure. Sometimes if your pet is anxious or is in pain from an existing health issue we may sedate them.
The small amount of radiation used in conventional X-rays is safe for pets. At our hospital, we use digital X-rays which use up to 90% less radiation. This means that even after repeated use it is highly unlikely that your pet will face exposure risks. As part of our safety measures, we use vests to protect other areas from radiation.
